What’s “drunk” about Drunk Yoga®?

drunk yoga team building

Created in 2017 by Eli Walker, Drunk Yoga® went viral as the world’s first yoga drinking game. Lose your balance? Take a sip. Mix up your left and right? Say something you’re grateful for. Last person to put their cup on their head? Has to make up a dance move. It grew quickly through public classes, corporate team-building, hotel partnerships and teacher trainings across the country.

The magic, however, was never really about the wine. Or the yoga, for that matter. It was what happened when we made wellness social through gamification, giving people permission to get over themselves and cheers their neighbors while experiencing the joy of yoga (+ not taking it too seriously).

In 2023, Drunk Yoga® grew up and became The Uplift Center - (same P.L.A.Y. Method, bigger mission) - to teach all people and community leaders (not just yoga teachers) how to spark belonging through play in live experiences.

Our famous yoga parties are still here for corporate team-building activities in NYC, corporate retreats in the Hudson Valley, conference wellness activities and brand activations, but now with even more options for customization (wine, coffee, or no beverage at all) to make social wellness easy and fun. Come as you are, let your hair down and fill your cup(s).

“Cheers to having fun and testing your flexibility.”

FAQs

Where can I try a Drunk Yoga® class?

We’re not currently hosting ticketed Drunk Yoga® classes—only private and corporate events under the new brand name “Uplift Experiences.” That said, we’re frequently hired to curate pop-ups for brand activations in New York City (and beyond!) which are open to the public. Be sure to subscribe to our newsletter below to stay in-the-know!

Where do you currently have instructors?

Eli and most of her senior teachers are in NYC and the Hudson Valley area. We also have teachers in LA and Dallas. However, for corporate events, we send our teachers wherever your experience takes place!

…Do students really get “drunk” and do yoga?

Nope! Though we can totally see why you’d think that. Consuming alcohol during our beverage in-hand experiences is optional, not mandatory, and participants are offered no more than 2 glasses of wine per event—one during the yoga drinking game, and one after class for socializing.

Do you have a yoga studio in New York where we can bring our team to?

We do not. We’re an events-based business. While we do have a handful of partnering venues we like to work with as needed, we’ll generally send Eli or one of our certified instructors to your office and event space.

How exactly does the class work?

Our signature experience is 90-minutes in length, allowing 15 minutes for participants to mingle before class begins. Once settled, Eli or one of our certified instructors explains the rules for safety and yoga drinking games for fun. (Think, “If you lose your balance, take a sip. If you’re mix up your left and right, say something you’re grateful for.) The interactive yoga experience culminates in a group game, followed by a relaxing “sip n’ stretch.”

What if we don’t want to call the event “Drunk Yoga®”?

No sweat! Totally get it. “Drunk Yoga®” is provocative by design. We suggest our clients refer to the class as “Lift Your Spirit(s) Yoga,” “Connect n’ Stretch,” “Coffee Yoga,” or “Happy Hour Yoga” by Drunk Yoga®, or work with Eli to come up with a fun, cheeky name tailored to your event goals.
